I somewhat by accident ended up in the middle of some Obama rally. The stage was near me, and so was a long table with free snacks and soda. Someone told me that the crowd was divided in half by this center table, with the Obama supporters on the other side from me and a bunch of teabaggers on my side. I looked around and found it hard to tell them apart. Facing the center, the paved, crowded area was bounded to my left by some buildings, in front of me on the other side of the friendly crowd by another building, and to my right by a park. Behind me the pavement continued out to some road. I was standing near the curb drinking a coke from the free food table when Andy Pohl walked out of the park and I said hi to him and we chatted a little bit about what a coincidince that we would run into each other twice in one week (actually, the last time I saw him was at Christmas, about a month and a half ago). He had come from the direction of a nearby tree that I was admiring. I tried to imagine how large a person standing next to it would look, because at the moment there weren't any people standing near it and the scale wasn't totally obvious, though it did appear to be an unusually large tree, with a big, thick trunk and thick branches.
