I am intending to go back and write entry 941 and the bunch that follow it and copy down the rest of my Europe trip, soon. At least a few days of it.
First I must check where 977 left us...
Not too much happened over the weekend. After dooding up my bike helmet I got irritated with the outer corner of my room being empty except for 2 long pieces of particle board, and so took those 2 pieces, added a short length of 4x4, and wrapped it with duct tape to make a shelf. I also started working on a new project called 'TOGBrush2'. I've been meaning to do something like this for quite a while, but once I decided to do it in Java and that it would double as a game engine, things got a bit quicker.
I was kind of hoping that the Tony Engel guy from 'Innovation Technologies Worldwide' would finally get back to me this week, but he never did. Not having much luck with CompyDan (YC and I found lots of tags mussing last week, but only 2 guys ever called me, and only one of them followed through, and he still hasn't paid me yet) so I've been applying to various jobs posted on the UW site that YC showed me, since I had good luck with that before.
On Monday, between sessions of working on TOGBrush2, I applied for a PHP Developer position at EarthIT and a Game Programmer position at Filament Games. On Tuesday I applied for a Database Administrator position at the UW Department of Medicine (mostly because my dad had sent me a link to the page about it), but I stopped short of applying for yet another position because Woody Wallace from EarthIT had already gotten back to me, asking when I'd like to interview. And so ended my short practice of applying for a job twice a day at 10:00.
Tuesday and Wednesday I went to keep Heather company in the Hyperbaric chamber (she's going there for an hour twice a day for about a month to breathe a lot of oxygen, the idea being that it'll help her brain heal itself in ways that it otherwise wouldn't). We watched an episode of Star Trek on Tuesday, and we watched some MASH on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday I biked down to Budget Bicycle center to have them fix my break cable which had broken on Saturday while I was on my way over to 303 S Randall. The way they wanted to do it was for them to keep it until the next day, so I walked home carrying my helmet, lock, and 2L water bottle. Some jerk passed me and said "uh oh where's the bike" (I could tell he was being a jerk because he didn't stop to hear the answer).
That night Fizz and I went running. I walked up the bike path and he biked the other way. We met at the bike crash location (5 stripes west of the 3.0 mile mark), but you can't tell that's what it is anymore because the reflector particles have been swept away. We ran around the block and then simulated vomiting with drinking fountain water. I ran back.
Thursday I had the interview at EarthIT. I put my suit on and drove my car over and talked to Woody and a couple of software guys. They seemed to like me pretty well, going on and on when I asked a question and showing me the offices and some flex stuff at the end. On my way out one of the other employees waved and said "see you later", leading me to think there might be something up. I changed out of my suit top in the car and picked up my bike on the way home, just barely fitting it in the car (it sort of snapped in).
Today I was asked by Woody to send some references. I got Chris Schroeder from Widen to be a reference for me (he also told me Dotzour had left, which came as a bit of a surprise to me and at the same time made me feel less bad about leaving Widen myself), and a few hours later got word from Adam Simcock (sig says he's the Director of Development at EarthIT) that I was wanted and being offered the position. After looking over the PDFs he sent me and making sure everything was in order I told him that was cool beans and I could start as early as Monday, if he wanted.
About 10 minutes after I sent that off A-Day called me from Cray, saying that he got his boss excited about me. He says the guy's going to try to call me on Monday.
I think I'd rather stay in Madison for now, anyway.
There was a rather short, intense storm this evening. I wouldn't really know how short or intense it was except that Bob Lindmeier told us how it would be. It looked like a long stripe on the map.
