Minecraft Cross-Sections, Island Rescue, Kidnapping - 2024-12-02 - TOGoS's Journal

I had a dream about a plane that was made of a few of these [parallelogram prisms] stuck together. There were bathrooms in-between the sections. In the dream, my old girlfriend and I had taken advantage of the configuration to steal a baby, which I spent the rest of the dream feeling very bad about. We both have children now so I don't know why we would steal someone else's kid.

Dreams can be strange and abstract, often mixing emotions, memories, and random concepts in ways that don’t align with real-world motivations or logic. It sounds like your dream was piecing together fragments of your past, your current life, and maybe some subconscious thoughts or anxieties. The configuration of the plane might symbolize compartments or transitions in your life (like your relationship with your ex and the fact that you both have children now), while the act of stealing a baby could represent feelings of guilt, responsibility, or reflection about parenthood or the past.

Dreams don’t always make sense, and the emotions they stir up can be confusing. But sometimes they’re just your brain's way of processing unrelated ideas or feelings in a surreal narrative. If it left you unsettled, it might just be worth thinking about what parts of the dream stood out most and whether they connect to something you’ve been reflecting on recently.

In an earlier part of the dream, I was flying around a large Minecraft world, as if in a 3D map viewer. Not all the chunks were loaded, or maybe as the 'camera' was positioned within a chunk, that chunk became transparent, so that you could see the sides of the adjacent chunks, so as to show a cross-section of the world, much of which was filled with water and interestingly-lit by lava falls. My old boss, who is also my boss again, though I rarely see him, was standing behind me, and didn't know what he was looking at, but seemed impressed by all of it. I was maybe a little embarrassed about that, since the only thing I had done was tell my computer to generate the world. I hadn't written this map viewer or anything.

Dreams like this seem to pull together themes of creativity, exploration, and perception, with a touch of self-reflection. The Minecraft-like imagery of a world made transparent, with lava and water creating striking visuals, might represent your subconscious "digging beneath the surface" of something—whether that's work, relationships, or your own thoughts. The feeling of embarrassment you mentioned, as if you were being credited for something you didn’t actually create, could hint at imposter syndrome or a general sense of not taking full ownership of something impressive in your life.

Your old boss being there, both as someone from your past and present, might symbolize a connection to authority, responsibility, or recognition, with the boss's inability to fully grasp what he was seeing paralleling situations where you feel your efforts or context aren't fully understood. The large, awe-inspiring Minecraft world—essentially endless possibilities generated by a simple command—might be a reflection of untapped potential or vast ideas you feel are out there, even if you don't personally feel responsible for them.

In all, it sounds like a fascinating and visually rich dream—an exploration of worlds within and without, with a subtle undercurrent of reflection about ownership, creativity, and how others perceive your contributions. Or, you know, it could just be your brain playing around with Minecraft aesthetics and old workplace dynamics! Either way, it's fun to think about.

And there was a third part, which may have been after that, but before the kidnapping bit, where I was in the Minecraft world with a couple of friends, and we had tunneled/bridged our way down into a deep canyon, where there was an island of land sticking up, much lower than the surrounding land but still far above the bottom of the ravine, with people living on it.

Those people seemed glad that we had come and built a bridge to their island so that they were no longer stuck there. Again, I felt weird about this, as if we were getting praise for doing not very much. I felt like we should do more to help them. And actually, it might have been the lady who lived on that island whose baby we stole.

As we left the island, or the plane (maybe we took a plane from the island), I had to go through customs, and didn't think we would be able to pass through with this child that wasn't mentioned on our papers, but old girlfriend said "just say ___", and then the customs person stamped my papers with no questions asked. I was relieved to get through but still not sure this baby-stealing business was right.

Your dream seems to weave together layers of exploration, responsibility, and moral ambiguity, while also tying into feelings of guilt or inadequacy when receiving praise for something that feels minor or unearned.

The Minecraft world with the canyon and stranded people could represent a sense of discovery and connection—you and your friends literally "bridged" a gap, which the people appreciated. However, your discomfort with their gratitude might symbolize a deeper feeling that you're not doing enough or not living up to some standard of meaningful contribution, even when others perceive you as helpful or successful. The idea of doing "just enough" but feeling like more is required seems to tie into the earlier theme of embarrassment in front of your boss.

The transition from the island to the baby-stealing section, possibly involving the same people, makes the moral tension even sharper. Stealing the baby could symbolize the weight of taking something—responsibility, praise, or an obligation—that isn't really yours to bear, or that you feel isn't entirely right. Your old girlfriend suggesting an easy way through customs, and your relief at escaping scrutiny, could point to a desire to avoid conflict or guilt while still grappling with the wrongness of the situation.

Overall, this dream seems deeply tied to themes of:

  1. Responsibility: Feeling obligated to do more than you have, or questioning whether your actions are enough or ethical.
  2. Recognition and guilt: Struggling with praise for things you feel don’t warrant it, and carrying a sense of discomfort about that.
  3. Moral ambiguity: Navigating scenarios where you're doing things you recognize as wrong (like taking the baby), but feeling unsure of how or whether to make it right.

The blend of adventure, personal dynamics, and moral tension makes this dream incredibly rich. It might reflect underlying questions about your own sense of purpose, fairness, or how you balance doing enough with your own expectations and the way others perceive you. Or, again, it could just be your mind having fun with Minecraft physics and some surreal plotlines!

Addendum: The first part, with the Minecraft world, seemed to take place on Schroeder Road, and felt similar to when I was there with my dad in a dream from earlier this year.
